An Umrah package typically combines several travel arrangements needed for a pilgrimage to Makkah and Madinah. Depending on the package, this may include flights, accommodation in Makkah and Madinah, airport or intercity transfers, visa-related assistance, meals and Ziyarat arrangements.

However, not every Umrah package includes the same services. A lower-priced package may cover only essential arrangements, while another may include flights, private transfers, breakfast or additional support.

Before booking, UK travellers should check exactly what is included in the advertised price rather than assuming that every service is part of the package.

What Does an Umrah Package Usually Include?

The exact inclusions vary between travel providers and individual packages, but the main components commonly offered are:

Package Component	What to Check
Flights	Airline, departure airport, baggage and direct or connecting flights
Makkah Hotel	Hotel name, category, location, room type and number of nights
Madinah Hotel	Hotel name, category, location, room type and number of nights
Transfers	Airport, Makkah–Madinah and other listed transfers
Visa Assistance	What visa-related support is actually provided
Room Occupancy	Double, triple or quad sharing
Meals	Room only, breakfast or other specified meals
Ziyarat	Whether guided visits are included
Support	Pre-departure or in-destination assistance, where offered

The package description and booking confirmation should state which of these services are included.

Are Flights Included in Umrah Packages?

Some Umrah packages include return flights from the UK, while others may be offered without flights.

For a flight-inclusive package, check:

UK departure airport
Airline
Departure and return dates
Direct or connecting itinerary
Baggage allowance
Arrival airport in Saudi Arabia
Flight times
Any applicable conditions

The departure airport can be particularly important for UK travellers. A package departing from an airport close to your home may be more convenient than one requiring additional travel across the UK.

Do not assume that flights are included simply because a package displays a per-person price. Confirm this before booking.

What Hotel Accommodation Is Included?

Accommodation is one of the main components of most Umrah packages.

If your journey includes both Makkah and Madinah, check the accommodation arrangements for each city separately.

Makkah Accommodation

Your package details should identify the hotel in Makkah and the number of nights included.

Check:

Hotel name
Hotel category
Number of nights
Room type
Room occupancy
Hotel facilities
Location
Practical access to Al Masjid Al Haram

Location can be particularly important. Two hotels within the same star category may provide very different experiences depending on their distance and practical walking route to the Haram.

Madinah Accommodation

The same checks should be made for your hotel in Madinah.

Look at:

Hotel name
Number of nights
Star category
Room occupancy
Facilities
Location in relation to Al Masjid an-Nabawi

Do not compare two Umrah packages based on star rating alone. The exact hotel, location and room arrangements can make a substantial difference.

What Do 3-Star, 4-Star and 5-Star Umrah Packages Include?

The star category primarily relates to the accommodation being offered. It does not necessarily mean that every other element of the package is different.

3-Star Umrah Packages

A 3-star package may suit travellers who prioritise keeping accommodation costs lower.

When comparing 3-star options, pay particular attention to hotel location, facilities, room occupancy and transport arrangements.

4-Star Umrah Packages

A 4-star package may offer a different standard of accommodation and facilities.

However, check the actual hotel rather than assuming every 4-star option provides the same experience.

5-Star Umrah Packages

A 5-star package generally includes a higher category of accommodation, but the exact facilities and location still vary between hotels.

A 5-star rating also does not automatically mean that flights, meals, private transfers or other services are included. These should be checked separately.

How Many Nights Are Included in an Umrah Package?

Umrah packages are available for different durations.

Common options may include:

7 nights
10 nights
12 nights
14 nights

The total duration alone does not tell you how the stay is divided between Makkah and Madinah.

For example, when reviewing a package, check exactly how many nights you will spend in each city.

A longer package may provide more time in Makkah and Madinah, but it can also involve additional accommodation costs. Compare the duration alongside the hotel category, location and other inclusions.

What Does Double, Triple or Quad Occupancy Mean?

Many Umrah package prices are advertised per person based on a particular room occupancy.

Common arrangements include:

Double occupancy: Two people share one room.

Triple occupancy: Three people share one room.

Quad occupancy: Four people share one room.

This is important because the advertised starting price may be based on quad sharing.

If you are travelling as a couple and require a double room, your per-person price may differ.

Always confirm the occupancy basis of an advertised price before comparing packages.

Are Airport Transfers Included in an Umrah Package?

Transfers may be included, but the exact arrangements vary by package.

Depending on your itinerary, transfers could include travel between:

Saudi airport and Makkah hotel
Makkah and Madinah
Madinah hotel and airport
Other locations specified in your itinerary

Also check whether the transfer is:

Private
Shared
Coach-based
Provided according to a fixed group schedule

A package stating that it includes “transfers” does not necessarily mean private transport throughout the journey.

The booking details should explain what transportation is provided.

Is the Umrah Visa Included in the Package?

Visa arrangements require careful checking because the service offered by a travel provider can differ.

A package may include assistance with the applicable visa process rather than simply providing a visa as an automatic package component.

Before booking, ask:

What visa-related assistance is included?
Are any visa charges included in the quoted price?
What documents will I need to provide?
Are there any separate fees?
Who is responsible for completing each stage of the process?

Saudi entry and visa requirements can change, so travellers should check the requirements applicable to their nationality and travel dates before departure.

Are Meals Included in Umrah Packages?

Meals depend on the hotel and package selected.

An Umrah package may offer:

Room only
Breakfast
Half-board arrangements
Other specifically listed meal arrangements

Do not assume breakfast or other meals are included because the hotel provides a restaurant.

Check the package description to see exactly what meal plan applies to your booking.

You should also budget separately for food and drinks that are not covered by your package.

Is Ziyarat Included in an Umrah Package?

Some packages include organised Ziyarat visits in Makkah, Madinah or both cities.

Other packages may offer Ziyarat as an optional service or may not include it at all.

If Ziyarat is important to you, confirm:

Whether it is included
Which city or cities are covered
Whether transport is provided
Whether a guide accompanies the group
Whether there is an additional charge

The itinerary should identify any organised visits that form part of your package.

Is Travel Between Makkah and Madinah Included?

If your package includes stays in both cities, check how transportation between Makkah and Madinah is arranged.

Depending on the package, transport could be provided as part of a transfer service or arranged separately.

Do not assume that accommodation in both cities automatically means intercity transportation is included.

Confirm this before booking so you understand the complete travel arrangement.

Are Guided Services Included?

Some organised Umrah packages may provide additional support, such as:

Pre-departure information
Group coordination
Religious guidance
Ziyarat guidance
Assistance during the journey
In-destination support

These services vary considerably between packages.

If having a guide or group representative is important to you, confirm whether that person will actually travel with the group or whether assistance is provided remotely or locally.

What Is Usually Not Included in an Umrah Package?

Knowing what is not included can be just as important as understanding what is included.

Depending on the package, travellers may need to pay separately for:

Personal shopping
Meals not specified in the package
Optional excursions
Personal transport
SIM cards or mobile data
Additional baggage
Travel insurance, where arranged separately
Laundry
Room service
Hotel extras
Additional nights
Changes to flights or accommodation
Other personal expenses

Never assume that a service is included unless it appears in your package details or booking confirmation.

Are All-Inclusive Umrah Packages Really All-Inclusive?

The term “all-inclusive” should be checked against the actual list of services provided.

It does not necessarily mean that every possible expense during your journey is covered.

For example, a package described this way may include flights, hotels and transfers but still exclude personal expenses, some meals or optional activities.

Instead of relying on the package name, read the inclusions and exclusions individually.

What Should Families Check in an Umrah Package?

Families may have additional requirements compared with solo travellers.

Before booking, consider:

Number of adults
Number and ages of children
Number of rooms required
Room occupancy
Hotel location
Flight times
Baggage allowance
Transfer arrangements
Meal arrangements
Number of nights in each city

Families with younger children may place greater importance on convenient hotel locations and manageable flight schedules.

If you need connecting rooms, family rooms or another specific arrangement, confirm availability rather than assuming it will be provided.

What Should Elderly Pilgrims Check?

Older pilgrims and travellers with reduced mobility may need to examine package details more carefully.

Important considerations can include:

Practical distance from the Haram
Practical distance from Al Masjid an-Nabawi
Accessibility of the hotel
Transfer arrangements
Wheelchair requirements
Number of connections during flights
Length of walking routes
Availability of assistance

Hotel distance should not be considered only as a number on a map. The actual route, entrances and accessibility can affect how convenient the accommodation is.

Any specific accessibility requirements should be discussed before booking.

Are Umrah Packages from the UK ATOL Protected?

ATOL protection is relevant to qualifying flight-inclusive travel arrangements sold to UK consumers.

However, you should not assume that every service purchased from a travel company is automatically ATOL protected.

For an eligible ATOL-protected booking, you should receive an ATOL Certificate identifying the travel arrangements that are financially protected.

Check the protection information for your specific booking and read the certificate carefully.

What Should You Check Before Paying for an Umrah Package?

Before making payment, review the complete package rather than focusing only on the advertised price.

Use this checklist:

Total price
Price per person
Room occupancy basis
Departure date
Return date
UK departure airport
Flight itinerary
Baggage allowance
Makkah hotel
Madinah hotel
Number of nights in each city
Hotel category
Room type
Transfers
Visa-related arrangements
Meals
Ziyarat, where applicable
Other included services
Services not included
Payment terms
Amendment conditions
Cancellation conditions
Applicable financial protection

If anything is unclear, ask for clarification before making payment.

How to Compare Two Umrah Packages Properly

Suppose you are comparing two packages:

Package A

£X per person
7 nights
3-star hotels
Quad occupancy
Flights included

Package B

£Y per person
10 nights
4-star hotels
Double occupancy
Flights and transfers included

Looking only at £X and £Y would not provide a fair comparison.

Instead, compare:

Price + flights + hotels + hotel locations + nights + occupancy + transfers + meals + other inclusions

This gives you a clearer understanding of what you are receiving for the total price.

Why the Cheapest Umrah Package Is Not Always the Lowest-Cost Option

A lower advertised price can be attractive, but check what sits behind that price.

For example, differences may involve:

Fewer nights
Different room occupancy
Hotels farther from the mosques
Different flight arrangements
Transfers not included
Meals not included
Different travel dates

This does not mean that a lower-priced package is unsuitable. It means that prices should be compared on a like-for-like basis.

The most appropriate option depends on your own budget and travel requirements.

Questions to Ask Before Booking an Umrah Package

Before confirming your booking, ask the travel provider:

Are return flights included?
Which UK airport will I depart from?
What baggage allowance applies?
What are the exact hotel names?
How many nights are in Makkah and Madinah?
What room occupancy is the price based on?
Which transfers are included?
What visa assistance is provided?
Are meals included?
Is Ziyarat included?
Are there any additional charges?
What are the amendment and cancellation terms?
What financial protection applies to my booking?

Having these answers in writing can make it easier to understand exactly what you are purchasing.

Umrah Package Inclusions with Umrah Holidays

Umrah Holidays provides different package options for UK travellers, and the exact inclusions depend on the individual package selected.

When comparing available Umrah Packages, review the package details carefully, including the hotels in Makkah and Madinah, duration, room occupancy, flights and other listed arrangements.

Different travellers have different priorities. Some may prioritise affordability, while others may prefer a particular hotel category, location or longer stay.

The package should therefore be assessed according to its complete inclusions rather than its headline price alone.

Umrah Holidays is operated by Travixum Ltd (Company No. 13555073), ATOL 12192. For eligible ATOL-protected bookings, the ATOL Certificate identifies the travel arrangements covered by the protection.

Final Thoughts

An Umrah package can include flights, hotels in Makkah and Madinah, transfers, visa-related assistance, meals, Ziyarat and other travel support, but the exact combination differs from one package to another.

The most important step is to check what your specific package includes before booking.

Pay particular attention to the exact hotels, number of nights, room occupancy, flights, transfers, meals, visa arrangements and exclusions.

Comparing these details alongside the total price will give you a much clearer picture of what you are actually paying for and whether the package meets your pilgrimage and travel requirements.
